October 23rd 11:33 pm
It's been since July since I've updated the blog and I've been trying to play Dr. Phil on why it's taken me so long to do an update? All I could come up with is that blogging brings me back to reality, even though I don't always blog all the details that's going on with my family, blogging makes me stop and reflect on how much my family has changed in these past 9 months. Sometimes it's easier to think that everything is just peachy and it's not always easy to face reality. A lot has changed since my last blog Acey is home and we are finally back to some sort of normalcy. Acey did at home rehab then back to out patient rehab and at this time he is only doing rehab on his own. He's had two emergency room visits and and two different feeding tubes put in. The last feeding tube was done at the University of Utah and Acey has just thrived since, gaining 6lbs!! Acey is still trying to walk with help with a few people and a walker, and he is now able to stand holding on to the counter by himself, which is pretty amazing to see. All in all Acey is still the same, he refuses to miss a ball game, and this week will be traveling to Lewiston to watch our daughter in the State Volleyball tournament. October 31st Acey will be going back to coaching his basketball team, yes he is still going to coach. It would take a lot more then just a brain and spinal cord injury to prevent him from coaching his team. Acey loves to coach and loves the game but these particular girls he loves to be around and would love to see them repeat. Of course he will have help from my Dad again this year, and also his Uncle Gene who is an amazing coach is coming out of retirement to help out. So, if you think Acey is just sitting home feeling sorry for himself, with not much to do, think again.

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the update! It was great to see you guys last month (just realized I still owe you pictures). Whether you know it or no, you are BOTH a huge inspiration to me and I'm sure countless others. Love you both!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jalynn, for updating the blogsite. Even though I am right here in Dietrich, I'm uncomfortable asking how things are going. I enjoyed joking with Acey at the Homecoming parade. I pray for your family regularly. You are thought of often, with love. Cheri Southwick
ReplyDeleteI have loved all of the news articles and pictures posted this week about your family. You are still in our prayers!
ReplyDeleteGO BLUE DEVILS REPEAT!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHello, you, your husband and your entire family are in my prayers. Happening upon your family story I thought that perhaps there was something I could do to assist. Are you still in need of a fundraiser?

I would love to communicate with you. My husband suffered a TBI in Jan and was in the U of U Rehab for a few days with your husband. I did not meet you but I remember taking to his parents. I have thought about your husband often. My Mother in law saw your story in the Idaho Statesman so I was hoping to find you. We live in Grace, Idaho. We left the Rehab March 29th. Our families are so much alike!

Happy THANKSgiving!!! So wonderful to see Acey out there on that court. He seems to be doing well and looked so nice in his dress shirt/tie the other night when I came down for a game. :) Way to go, Acey. Thank you to John Howard and Gene Shaw for being there for those girls, as well. We appreciate you and those ladies will benefit greatly by your being a part of their lives in this capacity. Go Lady Blue Devils!!!! All the way to State. Oh, glad that they were able to get that feeding tube fixed and I can tell Acey has gained some of his weight back. Lookin' good! Much love and continued success. And, Merry, Merry Christmas and may 2012 prove to be a blessed one for your family. :)
ReplyDeleteReaching out to Acey. I saw a sister missionary in church today who reminded me of Cami when we were younger. She's from Utah but claims to have lots of family in Idaho. I went searching for a picture of Acey and Cami on the internet, just in case I got lucky. The results got me to this blog. I knew Acey as a youngster and the Shaw family has always been in my heart. I hope all is well. If we can reach out to each other I'd love to catch up with him.
